April Vineyard Wedding at Mount Ida Farm | Charlottesville Wedding Florist

If you’ve ever been to Mount Ida Farm, you know the drive in already feels like a love story. Winding past scenic vineyards, with the mountains slowly coming into view- it’s one of my absolute favorite Charlottesville wedding venues for a reason. There’s just something about it that feels both expansive and intimate all at once, and it made the perfect setting for Abby and Tanner’s spring wedding.

Abby reached out dreaming of a white and greenery palette with lots of texture, movement, and a whimsical feel. And spring in Charlottesville? That’s when flowers shine. It’s honestly the best time of year to lean into floral design because everything is blooming- lush, romantic, and not yet wilted under that mid-summer heat.

For their ceremony, we went all in. The wooden arbor at Mount Ida’s overlook was covered in trailing smilax vine and layers of white blooms—garden roses, lisianthus, ranunculus, delphinium, spirea and a few soft local seasonal accents. It framed the mountain backdrop like a dream (Charlottesville florists, you know how good that view is out there). Despite a slightly windy forecast (and checking my weather app religiously every day that week for rain), the weather held beautifully, and we got that perfect April atmosphere that makes spring weddings here feel like magic.

The bridesmaids wore a mix of blush tones and floral prints, and everything tied together with that relaxed, elegant vineyard vibe. Mount Ida has this way of letting nature be the backdrop, and as a Charlottesville wedding florist, I love leaning into that- creating designs that complement the setting instead of competing with it.

Down the aisle, I created about six feet of floral runners on either side-low and lush, like they were growing right out of the ground. We added rose petals all along the aisle to give Abby the most romantic walk toward her vows. It felt elevated but never overdone- just soft, floral garden energy against that big sky and vineyard view.

And as if that wasn’t enough to fall in love with, cocktail hour featured donkeys. Yes, literal donkeys, in flower crowns, walking around handing out drinks. Easily one of the most joyful things I’ve ever seen at a Charlottesville wedding. Shoutout to The Wandering Beer Burros for the cutest donkeys!

One of the best parts of the day (besides the donkeys, obviously) was getting to work alongside an incredible vendor team. Alaina Ronquillo Photography captured everything with such softness and beauty- her gallery felt like a dream. And Scott Belanger Films brought it all to life with a video that felt exactly like the energy of Abby and Tanner’s wedding: warm, joyful, and authentically full of love. And then there’s Adam with Donovan Groves Events—aka the calm, collected magic-maker behind the scenes. His thoughtfulness, organization, and eye for detail brought the day together seamlessly. Watching him lead with such grace and kindness made it feel like everything just… flowed. This is my official petition to work with these three again very soon. So if you’re still on the hunt for your dream vendor team- consider it handled.

Spring weddings at Charlottesville vineyards are my favorite for a reason. The blooms are in season, the greens are fresh, and the landscape is just waking up after winter. If you’re dreaming of a wedding full of fresh flowers, soft light, and a venue that feels like a fairytale, Mount Ida Farm checks every box.
