Step into a world of dreamy florals and creative inspiration with this Monet-inspired wedding editorial at The Estate at River Run in Virginia. This project was such a fun one for me to work on, and it’s all about capturing the feeling of Monet’s famous gardens and water lilies—basically, the ultimate romantic vibe.
Monet once said, “I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers,” and honestly, I can relate. Flowers are my art, and for this shoot, I wanted every bloom to feel like it came straight out of a painting. The goal was to bring Monet’s soft colors, natural flow, and that dreamy, impressionistic look to life in a way that felt fresh and personal.
The ceremony arch was a total showstopper. I packed it with garden roses, allium, lisianthus, and delphiniums to create that lush, overgrown garden feel. The colors? Soft blush, pastel blues, lilacs, and pops of fuchsia—basically a watercolor palette come to life. I wanted it to feel like something you’d find walking through Monet’s garden in Giverny, like it just grew there naturally.
For the table we played with layers of texture and color, including tall and abundant floral runners. Think ruffled garden roses, textured peonies, and some super fun greenery. I tried to mimic how light and shadow play in Monet’s paintings. The place settings, picked by Hannah B Events, with those gorgeous ornate plates and soft linens, just tied it all together. It felt so timeless but also totally approachable.
The bridal bouquet might be one of my favorites I’ve ever made. It was soft and flowy with cascading greenery and pastel blooms, almost like it was painted into existence. I kept thinking about Monet’s quote: “I must have flowers, always, and always.” Same, Monet. Same.
Outside, on the estate’s balcony, the couple stood surrounded by floral installations that framed the rolling hills and blue skies of Virginia. It felt like stepping into a real-life painting. Seeing everything come together like that was such a reminder of how inspiration from art can turn into something magical in real life.
As a wedding florist in Richmond, Virginia, I’m always looking for ways to tell a story through flowers. This Monet-inspired shoot reminded me how powerful it is to draw inspiration from other art forms. It made the day feel ethereal and unforgettable—like something out of a dream.
“My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece,” Monet said, and I couldn’t agree more. For this editorial, The Estate at River Run became my garden, and the flowers were my brushstrokes. I hope this inspires couples and fellow creatives to dream big and find beauty in unexpected places. After all, every wedding is its own masterpiece.
